We will use various creative techniques to bring literacy to life, drawing pupils and staff into a shared process of communicating their own thoughts, feelings and opinions.
The project starts with a series of unexpected, simple, small site-specific installations using collected words and poems put throughout school – past projects have included painted pebbles and hanging luggage tags. These create a buzz and intrigue, promoting enthusiasm and engagement.
This process continues until, in the final phase, modified objects appear around school that play the collected voices of pupils and staff: talking books, singing pipes, whispering telephones, a filing cabinet of films. This culmination of the literacy journal is celebrated by the whole school, cementing a process of sharing that will form a lasting legacy.
