The Professional Acting Foundation course at the Young Actors Theatre in Islington will give you the skills to go onto degree level acting courses. Typically our students go onto to study at LAMDA, ALRA and Central School of Acting. It requires attendance every morning for 36 weeks, starting either from September or January so you can work in the afternoon & evenings.
Classes will take place from Monday – Friday 10.00am to 1.30pm and focus on the essentials of acting, voice and movement.
We will cover a range of performance styles and work collaboratively with the actor to give them a sense of what to expect from further professional training or starting out on their career path.
You will have the opportunity to work with accredited professionals like Ex-LAMDA teacher Yvonne Morley or Steve Brownlie from RADA.
Above: Louis speaks about his experience on the Acting Foundation course 2015/6.
Skills you will explore throughout the year include:
Acting & Movement practitioners
Classical & Modern plays
Introduction to Dance
Rehearsal & performance
Being a working actor & understanding the industry
The year will culminate in a full scale production open to the public and industry.
We will also offer one on one support for audition preparation for further training and professional development.
Course members will also be under consideration for representation by our in house agency YAT Management.
In partnership with BFI Future Film, YAT foundation students are offered free places to attend the monthly Future Film events at BFI Southbank. At the Raw Shorts/Future Film Labs events students can see screenings, take part in workshops and meet young producers and film makers. For those students who are interested in working in the film industry this is invaluable time to spend learning about opportunities and networking and gaining industry insight.
Plus students on the Foundation course will get the opportunity to visit the annual BFI Future Film Festival in February 2017 with a packed line up of workshops, masterclasses, networking opportunities, screenings and Q&As at BFI Southbank.
